The Children's Mercy Pharmacy Department has become only the second pediatric program in the nation to be accredited for its specialty residency in Hematology/Oncology. The pharmacy's first-year residency program also received accreditation from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Both programs train the pediatric pharmacists of the future.

The new Children's Mercy Bioethics Center is now open. One of only two centers in the nation focusing specifically on the bioethical issues related to pediatrics, the new center is headed by nationally-renowned pediatrician and bioethicist John Lantos, MD. The center will serve as an educational and consultative resource for health care providers both locally and nationwide.
